The European IPPC Bureau has a continual need for excellent staff coming from EU Member States as well as candidate countries.
The European IPPC Bureau offers its staff:
• an international working atmosphere
• involvement in European policy, mainly related to environmental and industrial policies
• active participation in the development of European-wide environmental guidance documents.
Positions at the European Integrated Pollution Prevention Control Bureau
Currently, the work programme of the European IPPC Bureau contemplates the review of the following BREFs:
• review of the Chlor-Alkali (CAK) BREF
• review of the Industrial Cooling Systems (ICS) BREF
• review of the Large Combustion Plants (LCP) BREF
• review of the Refineries (REF) BREF
• review of the Slaughterhouses and Animals By-products Industries (SA) BREF
• review of Smitheries and Foundries (SF) BREF
• review of the Textiles (TXT) BREF
• review of the
Waste Treatments (WT) BREF
Pending the outcome of the revision of the IPPC Directive, the elaboration of new Brefs (e.g. production of wood based panels, preservation of wood
products with chemicals) is also envisaged.
Job Profiles
There are three main types of jobs carried out at the Bureau. The profiles of each job are as follows:
BREF author
• an understanding of environmental policy in the EU
• a good understanding of process engineering, environmental issues and regulations
• a thorough knowledge of the IPPC Directive and the concepts within
• particular knowledge and understanding of a target industrial sector according to the work programme
• able to lead expert discussions and meetings
• able to communicate and negotiate with high level representatives
• self motivated and able to manage a project to deadlines
• able to work and write technical documents in the English language
• available to work in Sevilla for a period of 1 to 3 years
• computer skills (preferably use environment of MS Word and Internet)
• an open mind and positive attitude with the ability to assess submitted information.
BREF technical assistant
• scientific or technology based university studies
• able to work and write technical documents in the English language
• able to analyse, synthesise and validate/peer review information provided or gathered
• available to work in Sevilla for a period of 1 to 3 years
• computer skills (preferably use of MS Word and Internet).
Administrative staff
• good command of several EU languages in particular English
• knowledge of the EC administrative procedures
• good computer skills especially to format large documents
• capable of working in a multicultural environment.
