The European IPPC Bureau has a continual need for excellent staff coming from EU Member States as well as candidate countries.
The European IPPC Bureau offers its staff:
• an international working atmosphere
• involvement in European policy, mainly related to environmental and industrial policies
• active participation in the development of European-wide environmental guidance documents.
Positions at the European Integrated Pollution Prevention Control Bureau
The European IPPC Bureau will require BREF author candidates to start in 2010 specifically for the following work areas:
• review of the Textiles Industry (TXT) BREF
• review of the Waste Treatments (WT) BREF
And further, according to the foreseen work programme for 2011 and 2012 for the following areas:
• review of the Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals - Solids and Others Industry (LVIC-S) BREF
• review of the Slaughterhouses and Animals By-Products Industries (SA) BREF
• review of the Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals - Ammonia, Acids and Fertilisers (LVIC-AAF) BREF
• review of the Foundries (SF) BREF
• review of the Storage (ESB) BREF
• review of the Waste Incineration (WI) BREF
Pending the outcome of the revision of the IPPC Directive, the elaboration of new Brefs (e.g. production of wood panels) is also envisaged.
Job Profiles
There are three main types of jobs carried out at the Bureau. The profiles of each job are as follows:
BREF author
• an understanding of environmental policy in the EU
• a good understanding of process engineering, environmental issues and regulations
• a thorough knowledge of the IPPC Directive and the concepts within
• particular knowledge and understanding of a target industrial sector according to the work programme
• able to lead expert discussions and meetings
• able to communicate and negotiate with high level representatives
• self motivated and able to manage a project to deadlines
• able to work and write technical documents in the English language
• available to work in Sevilla for a period of 1 to 3 years
• computer skills (preferably use environment of MS Word and Internet)
• an open mind and positive attitude with the ability to assess submitted information.
BREF technical assistant
• scientific or technology based university studies
• able to work and write technical documents in the English language
• able to analyse, synthesise and validate/peer review information provided or gathered
• available to work in Sevilla for a period of 1 to 3 years
• computer skills (preferably use of MS Word and Internet).
Administrative staff
• good command of several EU languages in particular English
• knowledge of the EC administrative procedures
• good computer skills especially to format large documents
• capable of working in a multicultural environment.
